Purple Rain Ruffles - Perhaps his most iconic onscreen look is that from 1984's Purple Rain. Playing against gender norms, The Purple One worked a teased-out mullet, an exquisite, sequin-embellished suit and a white blouse punctuated with voluminous ruffle trim.(Photo: AP Photo/Rob Burns, File)

In the video, Prince wore his favorite color and portrayed a face-painted "Gemini" whose two sides were good and evil representing both Batman and The Joker. The Purple One also recorded the entire album for the movie, which included the other hit singles "Partyman" and "Scandalous." Prince was so enamored with the Batman comic, he also put in his bid for the role of The Joker, which ultimately went to Jack Nicholson.  (Photo: Warner Bros.)
