Head-Scratching Sports Quotes

Raymond Felton claims he's an elite point guard.

Raymond Felton Claims to Play on Elite Point Guard Level - After being recently traded from the New York Knicks to the Dallas Mavericks, Raymond Felton told a group of Dallas reporters: "I still play as an elite point guard at this level," Felton said, as reported by ESPN. "That's just all." It's all nonsense, Raymond! Did we read right? How do you still play as an elite point guard? You're coming off a career-low 9.7 points per game! That's not elite. It's beneath elite, sir. Sure, Felton's career averages of 13.1 points and 6.5 assists per game are serviceable NBA numbers, but don't go and throw yourself in the company of cats like Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Tony Parker, and Russell Westbrook. You're not on their level! Thing is, Felton isn't the first of his kind, an athlete drunk with delusional confidence. Click on for more side-eye worthy quotes...

Latrell Sprewell - It was right before the start of the 2004-05 NBA season and Latrell Sprewell took offense to the Minnesota Timberwolves not offering him a contract extension. Then came one of sports' most confusing and simultaneously insulting quotes of all time. ''Why would I want to help them win a title? They're not doing anything for me. I'm at risk. I have a lot of risk here. I got my family to feed.'' Mind you that Sprewell was due to make $14.6 million that season. To this day, we wonder what the man was feeding his family where nearly $15 million wasn't enough. Maybe he was overfeeding them or simply feeding them gold. Well, we hope they're fed and not fed up like Spree was in that ridiculous rant. Whatever the case, our regards to the family.(Photo: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Terry Bradshaw - NFL Hall of Famer turned analyst Terry Bradshaw once said, "I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid." Huh? You know how athletes sometimes say that their quote was taken out of context. Well, this isn't one of those times.(Photo: Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Mike Tyson - Mike Tyson produced several head-scratching quotes during and after his explosive boxing career, but one that always comes to mind is when he said, "I just might fade into bolivian," after getting knocked out by Lennox Lewis in their June 2002 match. Of course, Tyson meant oblivion. But this is the same man who also said he was going to eat Lewis's children. No matter what, though, we still love Iron Mike.(Photo: Al Bello/Getty Images)

Jose Canseco - Why do we get the feeling that Jose Canseco likes to hear himself talk? The former MLB slugger once tweeted, “Ancient gravity was much weaker...gravity had to be weaker to make dinosaurs nimble.” Riiiight. Next time thoughts about gravity run through your mind, Jose...keep them right there. (Photo: Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

Tracy McGrady - When Tracy McGrady made some hard changes, he felt like he had turned his career around for the better. However, let him tell it and he made changes only to be stuck in the same place. "My career was sputtering until I did a 360 and got headed in the right direction," T-Mac once said. No, you were in the same spot. Now a 180-degree turn would have you going places.(Photo: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Jason Kidd - Jason Kidd was another NBA player who got confused by making a full 360. Right after being drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in 1994, Kidd felt confident he can help improve the squad. "We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees," he said. So you're going to keep 'em losing? And this is the mind who's going to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to the promise land? Gotta be Kidding. (Photo: Allsport USA/Allsport)

Dennis Rodman on his wish to meet the next pope:  - “I want to be anywhere in the world that I’m needed… I want to spread a message of peace and love throughout the world.” (Photo: AP Photo/Matt Sayles, File)

Dennis Rodman - Dennis Rodman is one wild man, one who doesn't care what anybody thinks. That holds true for this statement he made on chemistry, including some bad math: "Chemistry is a class you take in high school or college, where you figure out two plus two is 10, or something." "The Worm" should have to take chemistry and math classes after saying this. Ha!(Photo: AP Photo/Matt Sayles, File)

Carl Everett - Former Major League Baseball player Carl Everett was never at a loss for words during his career. There was a time, though, that Everett might have said too much, spewing a mind-boggling rant in which he denied that dinosaurs ever existed. "God created the sun, the stars, the heavens and the earth, and then made Adam and Eve, the Bible never says anything about dinosaurs," Everett once offered. "You can't say there were dinosaurs when you never saw them. Someone actually saw Adam and Eve. No one ever saw a Tyrannosaurus Rex." Yes, Carl, you're right — we've never seen a T-Rex. But how would you explain fossils, then?   (Photo: Brian Bahr/Getty Images)

Andre Dawson - Former Chicago Cubs great Andre Dawson had a brilliant baseball career. The following quote...not so brilliant. Once asked about being a role model for kids, Dawson offered: "I want all the kids to do what I do, to look up to me. I want all the kids to copulate me." Whoa, Andre. Be easy, man. Copulate means to have sexual intercourse. We think emulate was the word he was looking for.(Photo: Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)
