Delta Airlines Tweets Giraffe to Represent Ghana - There are no giraffes in Ghana. Delta Airlines's social media person learned this the hard way when they tweeted an image of the Statue of Liberty to represent the USA and a giraffe to represent Ghana, when reporting the score of the World Cup match. Chelsea Handler Uses Tasteless 12 Years A Slave Joke to Promote Book - No stranger to controversial tweets, Chelsea Handler was back at it again Oscar night. The talk show host tweeted "Congratulations #12yearsaslave Go to Africa or buy #ugandabekiddingme http://amzn.to/1de1ka9 #aheadofthecurve #Oscars." Public Relations Rep Needs Damage Control - Justine Sacco lost her job as the public relations representative for Inter/Active Corp on Dec. 21 following the racist tweet she sent before boarding a plane to South Africa. Sacco tweeted, "Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white!" Although Sacco apologized, Twitter was not so forgiving.

A Thin Line Between Offensive and Comedic - Funny man Steve Martin wanted to play a grammar game with his Twitter followers on Dec. 20, but it backfired when one of his followers asked “Is this how you spell lasonia?” Martin responded, “It depends. Are you in an African-American neighborhood or at an Italian restaurant?” Martin removed the tweet and apologized.

Home Depot’s Monkey Mishap - Home Depot made headlines on Nov. 7 for a racist tweet that showed a picture of two African-American drummers with a white person in a gorilla mask in between them and asked: "Which drummer is not like the others?" The tweet, an ESPN “College GameDay” ad, was immediately deleted. The next day Home Depot tweeted an apology, and the person responsible for the tweet was also fired.
