Cleveland Browns’ Chris Smith Posts Touching Tribute To Girlfriend Who Was Killed By A Drunk Driver
Cleveland Browns defensive end Chris Smith experienced unspeakable tragedy recently when his girlfriend Petara Cordero was struck and killed by a drunk driver.
The tragic accident happened early Wednesday morning (September 11), and now, Smith is paying tribute publicly.
“God has a plan for all of us we can’t understand but she is in a better place now and she can rest easy,” Smith captioned under pictures of him and Cordero and Cordero by herself. “My wifey my best friend and the mother of my beautiful daughter. Love you baby.” The caption ended with a heart emoji and a praying hands emoji with the hashtags #StayStrong and #RIPMyLove.
Police have identified 47-year-old Tracy McIvor as the driver of the vehicle who struck the 26-year-old.
Smith and Cordero were driving down the highway when Smith’s Lamborghini had a tire burst, causing the car to veer left and hit a median near the West 140th Street exit. Upon exiting the vehicle from the passenger-side door, Cordero was suddenly hit by McIvor’s Mazda heading in the opposite direction.
Cordero was taken to Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Cordero and Smith celebrated the birth of their daughter, Haven Harris, just two weeks ago.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Chris Smith and his family and friends during this difficult time.
