Did Married Former NBA Star Ray Allen Get Catfished By A 'Troubled Man'?
Ray Allen proved himself to be one of the greatest shooters the NBA has ever seen over the course of his prolific 18-year career in the league.
But now, the 42-year-old former two-time champion is claiming that he was the target of an elaborate catfishing scheme, in which a man allegedly pretended to be several attractive women.
According to TMZ Sports, the married future Hall of Famer has filed legal documents to ensure that his private information isn't leaked. In addition, he has reportedly filed a restraining order against the man behind this creepy plot.
The website reported that the former NBA All-Star thought he was meeting "women" in "various online forums," and that he sometimes shared "private information" with them.
When he figured out that he was being catfished, Allen ended those relationships, but claims that the man orchestrating the scheme began making social media posts about the former shooting guard and his family — even doing it live from Ray's wife's Orlando restaurant and tagging Allen's family members.
According to TMZ, Ray got the man to ink a confidentiality agreement to stop posting about the Allen family, but the man violated the terms of it and had the nerve to file a restraining order against the two-time NBA champion — a request which was granted.
In response, Allen insists he never stalked the man and has filed a restraining order of his own.
"Ray wants nothing to do with [the alleged catfisher] and merely wants to be left alone," the former NBA superstar says in his filed court documents, as reported by TMZ.
Allen's attorney, David Oscar Markus, additionally told TMZ: "Ray Allen was the victim of an online scheme to extract money and embarrass him by someone who appears to be troubled. The person who perpetrated this scheme has now started to stalk him and make threats against Ray and his family. Ray has taken legal action to put an end to the threats and to expose his manipulation and wrongdoing."
Markus added that his married client "regrets" ever communicating online with this person, paving the way for this alleged catfishing scheme.
