With Kevin Durant Out at Least Four Weeks With an MCL Sprain, the Warriors Scooped Up Matt Barnes
The news could have been worse for the Golden State Warriors, but it's still troublesome enough to spark concern for the team's championship chances.
The Warriors announced this morning that Kevin Durant will be out indefinitely — for at least four weeks — after suffering a grade-2 MCL sprain and tibial bone bruise during the team's loss against the Washington Wizards last night.
While the news could have been worse, the Warriors will definitely miss KD's production of 25.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this season.
That explains why the Warriors quickly came to terms on a contract with forward Matt Barnes last night, marking the veteran's return to Golden State, where he played from 2006-08.
"It's a dream come true!" Barnes told The Undefeated. "I feel like I helped start something in '07, and now I'm coming back to help finish it."
The elated Barnes also took to his Instagram account to share his joy with former Warriors' teammates Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson.
Although KD's injury is a potential game-changer, the Warriors own an NBA-best 50-10 record with 22 games left in the regular season. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green led the Warriors to an all-time best 73-9 record last season, so they have more than enough firepower to keep putting up victories even with Durant's absence.
But things have definitely gotten more interesting.
