Brittney Griner and Fiancée Arrested for Assaulting Each Other
It turns out that WNBA superstar Brittney Griner and her fiancée, Glory Johnson, were arrested for assault and disorderly conduct against each other in Phoenix on Wednesday, ESPN is reporting.
The two 24-year-olds reportedly got into a heated argument in the home they recently purchased together and it became physical enough to the point that police were called and they were arrested for assault and disorderly conduct.
ESPN reported that Griner suffered a cut on her right wrist and had a bite mark from Johnson on the middle finger of her right hand. Meanwhile, Johnson was cut on her lip. Griner's friend, who broke up the fight, suffered a cut on his neck as well. All three declined medical attention.
Griner and Johnson were booked into the Maricopa County Jail in downtown Phoenix on Wednesday night and later released at 4 a.m. Thursday morning after their mugshots were taken.
"They will continue to work through these hardships together and ask that the media respect their privacy as they handle this family matter," David Michael Cantor, Griner's attorney, said in a statement released to ESPN. "Glory and Brittney sincerely apologize for the distraction this has caused their families, respective teams, the WNBA, sponsors and fans."
Griner, a center for the defending WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury, is regarded as arguably the best women's basketball player in the world. Her fiancée, Johnson, plays for the Tulsa Shock.
Griner and Johnson got engaged last August.
