Ex-Cowboy Brent Gets 180 Days in Jail, Probation
DALLAS (AP) — Jurors have sentenced former Dallas Cowboys player Josh Brent to 180 days in jail and 10 years of probation for a drunken car crash that killed his friend and teammate, Jerry Brown.
The jury delivered its verdict Friday.
Brent was convicted Wednesday of intoxication manslaughter for the crash near Dallas that killed Brown, who was a passenger in Brent's car. Brent could have gotten up to 20 years in prison.
The men were headed home from a night out with teammates when Brent lost control of his Mercedes and crashed. His blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit to drive.
Brent played defensive tackle for the Cowboys and Brown was a linebacker on the practice squad. They also played together at the University of Illinois.
