Florida Teen Receives 150 Scholarship Offers
Chad Thomas, 18, is a modern renaissance teen with many talents and hobbies. In fact, the senior at Booker T. Washington High School in Miami is so talented that he received 150 college scholarship offers.
Thomas has a combination of academic, athletic and musical abilities and a host of colleges across the nation are taking notice. Thomas has a GPA of 3.3, he is an Under Armour All-American defensive end and he plays a total of nine instruments: the piano, trombone, euphonium (a small tuba), bass guitar, regular guitar, snare, tuba, trumpet and drums.
Thomas had the opportunity most students dream of: attending their school of choice. After reviewing his options, he chose to stay close to home and combine his passion for music and football.
“I’m going to [the University of Miami] for music technology and I’m going to play football,” Thomas told CBS Miami.
He's been named the third top Florida recruit by 247Sports and Thomas helped lead the Booker T. Tornadoes to back-to-back state championships.
Thomas fell in love with music when he was three, after listening to his grandmother's gospel CDs. By the time he was 5 years old, his grandmother bought him a guitar and enrolled him in piano lessons.
Thomas wants to pursue both of his passions. He has dreams of playing for the NFL and wants to continue to develop his musical skills.
“If I make it to the NFL, that would be a blessing for me," said Thomas.
But if he had to choose between a career in football or music, Thomas said, "It would probably be music."
