Future on Working With DJ Esco and Staying Motivated to Succeed

Watch the third installment of 'Like I Never Left' now.

Future released the third episode of his five-part documentary series Like I Never Left earlier today.

In the clip, premiered by Complex, Future shares the origins of his relationship with DJ Esco. If the name sounds familiar, he’s the one behind a lot of Future’s mixtapes, including his most recent one, 56 Nights. As two people who came from the streets, they bonded initially over that and decided to work together. To help build Future’s buzz, Esco, who often DJs at Atlanta’s Magic City, kept playing his records in the club to get his name out there. Eventually, it spread throughout the city. “He has seen me grow in so many ways, it’s only right that I can trust his ear and I can trust his judgment,” Future said.

Later, he talks about starting from nothing to becoming one of the biggest rappers today. He keeps himself motivated by going back to the neighborhood he grew up in to show others that they can make it out too. Although he vows to never return to that lifestyle, he believes his hard work ethic came from trying to survive every day.

"I'm in the five-star hotel, or I'm at a five-star restaurant, but I come from nothing, I come from the streets, so sometimes out of my day I go back and I reminisce and I get back into the streets to what made me,” he said. “I want to see the people that's a part of that, that was a part of my life before my success, get a chance to see me successful, so it can motivate them to become successful one day."
