Brooklyn rapper Maino has responded to allegations that he assaulted a porn star, Mellanie Monroe, outside a New York City club last week. The 41-year old turned himself in and was formally arrested on misdemeanor assault. He was arraigned that same night.

The day after he was taken into custody, Maino posted an Instagram message proclaiming that he was is willing “to be mocked, hated and misunderstood” in order to “be great.” He captioned the photo message, “Believe half of wit u see and none of wit u hear.”

Monroe filed a police report claiming that she was punched in the stomach and ribs, and kicked in the leg by Maino, whose birth name is Jermaine Coleman. The altercation reportedly took place inside his car at around 3 a.m.

After the fight, Monroe says she got out of the vehicle and left on foot, only to run into Maino once more. This time, Maino stayed in the car while Monroe tried to rip a champagne bottle out of his security guard’s hand. A tussle ensued and Monroe hit her head, according to a police report. 

A rep for Maino denied that he was involved in any physical altercation with Monroe. He was at the Big Apple night spot to celebrate recording the “King of Brooklyn Part 2” when a “loud belligerent young lady whom he doesn’t know was escorted from his presence," the rep said.
