ScHoolBoy Q's Oxymoron Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard
It's official. ScHoolBoy Q is the current reigning top dawg. His major label debut, Oxymoron, has landed at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart after an opening week of 139,000 copies sold.
"Congrats y'all went number #1!!!!!!! Clap for yaself," he tweeted Wednesday (March 5).
According to Billboard, the Top Dawg Entertainment/Interscope release is the biggest first week sales for a rap album since November, when fellow Interscope-signee Eminem dropped The Marshall Mathers LP 2. And it beat out the Frozen soundtrack, which just picked up two Oscars this past Sunday. That album came in at No. 2 on the chart.
"When you do s--t for the love, that's when you get your best s--t," Anthony "[the actual] Top-Dawg" Tiffith previously told the publication about his approach to his label's success. He plans to drop six new projects from his team by the end of 2014, including a new one from Kendrick Lamar, whose TDE/Interscope debut opened at No. 2 with 242,000 units moved in its first week back in October 2012.
"WE RAN 2013 WITH OUT DROPPING 1 ALBUM," Tiffith tweeted last year. "I WONDER WUTS GONE HAPPEN IN 2014 WHEN I DROP 6.. THEY NOT READY 4 THIS #TDE #HiiiPoWeR TAKE OVER."
