Chicago Police Fear Lil JoJo’s Murder Sparked Gang War
Chief Keef is far from the only person experiencing the fallout from the shooting death last month of 18-year-old rapper Lil JoJo. In Chicago, police are investigating multiple murders that took place in the wake of JoJo's slaying, trying to parse evidence that a growing rap and gang feud has turned deadly, the Chicago Tribune, reports.
Keef brought national attention to the feud when he posted a mocking tweet about the death of JoJo shortly after the incident took place. Keef had shown allegiance to a gang in Chicago called the Black Disciples, while JoJo was believed to have been affiliated with a rival group known as the Gangster Disciples.
Investigators have taken note of other tweets and YouTube videos that point to an ongoing war between the two groups and their emissaries. Among the killings suspected of being connected to the conflict are the shooting deaths of Keith Bonds, 26, and Larry Porter, 25, both of which took place shortly after JoJo was killed.
Last week prosecutors made a plea to the court asking for Chief Keef to be jailed for a probation violation stemming from his role in a Pitchfork video that was shot in a gun range. If the court agrees, the “I Don’t Like” rapper could serve 18-months in house arrest. The prosecution even argued that it would be in the rapper’s best interest to be locked up at the moment to avoid retaliation for JoJo’s death.
