Young Chop on Pusha T: "It Ain't No Hard Feelings"
Youāre nobody till somebody kills you, the Notorious B.I.G. famously rapped. But nowadays, with hip hop beef (thankfully) moving from the streets to the tweets, a more accurate adage would be: Youāre nobody till somebody disses you. And on that measure, Young Chop is certainly somebody.
The young beatmaker produced fellow Chicago native Chief Keefās viral sensation āI Donāt Like,ā but heās been making even more headlines of late after he boldly criticized Kanye West for remixing the song. Chop said things had been smoothed over with Yeezy soon after, but then, last week, G.O.O.D. Music signee Pusha T, who rhymes on the remix, released āExodus 23:1,ā which appears to take shots at Chop (as well as Drake and Lil Wayne). In an exclusive sit-down with BET.com, Young Chop responded to the new diss and spoke about the upcoming projects his newfound notoriety has led to.
On āExodus,ā Pusha had folks hitting the rewind button when he rapped, "You can keep your beats, n----a / We'd much rather share your bitch, n----a, bitch n----a." Young Chop, for one, has no doubt the line is directed at him.
āMy brother woke me up, and he was like, man, Pusha-T dissed you,ā Chop says of the first time he heard the song. āI looked it up, and I was like, Damn, this is crazy. I took it as a shot.ā
Still, despite some angry-seeming tweets and interviews right after the song leaked, Chop doesnāt seem to be taking it too personally anymore ā not only does he like the song, but he says heād be down to collaborate with G.O.O.D. Music in the future.
āIt came out the blue but I like the song,ā Chop says. āIāll still work with them. It aināt no hard feelings. They just need to stop all the sneak dissing.ā
Despite this potential olive branch, Chop insists heās done trying to smooth things over with them ā heās focusing on building his newfound buzz instead. āI feel like itās no more talking to them like that,ā he says. āI donāt even take to controversy ā I just keep working. We got the 77th slot on the Billboard 100 with āI Donāt Like,ā so I feel good. Thatās my first Billboard appearance.ā
To that end, Chop has a slate of new projects lined up. āYou know Iām working, man,ā he says. āI got the new Gucci [Mane song] āSuper Cocky.ā Twista reached out too. Iām working on Lil Reeceās Trying to Make Cash mixtape ā itās almost wrapped up. Iām working with King LouieĀ ā he just recently got signed to Sony/Epic.ā
Chop even has long-term plans to start his own label. āI think I could put a label together,ā he says. āI could build an artist like what I did for Keef ā how I built him up to this point.āĀ
Considering the noise heās making, we donāt doubt him. Pay attention, music industry ā Pusha T certainly is.
