Mary J. Blige Talks Sobriety, Marriage on Wendy Williams

Mary J. Blige recalls her struggles with addiction.

Mary J. Blige stopped by the Wendy Williams show yesterday, and the Queen of Hip Hop-Soul opened up about weighty topics including drug addiction, marriage and motherhood.
Blige, who has a history of cocaine and alcohol abuse, told Williams (who has also struggled with drug addiction) that sobriety is no longer something that she struggles with.
“No, not at all," Mary said when asked if it was hard to stay sober. "I don’t need alcohol to get me out of a depression or get me out of a bad moment, but I have occasional drinks with my friends,” she explained. "Years ago I traded the coke for the alcohol and [at one point] had to completely cut it out for five years."
Blige also spoke about the status of her marriage with manager Kendu Isaacs, which had been rumored to have hit a rough patch.
"My marriage is not on the rocks, but I would be a liar and my fans would hate me if I said to them, ‘Oh, we’re perfect and everything is great,’” she said. “We have situations just like everyone else. We’re not out in public trying to kill each other, but it’s real. We love each other.”
Asked if a baby was in her future, Mary said she hasn't ruled out the idea, but said it wasn't in her immediate plans.
“When it’s time, when it happens, it’s in my future. I’m not planning it,” she said.
The nine-time Grammy Award winner released her 10th studio album, My Life II... The Journey Continues, in November.
