Rihanna's Loud Tour Grosses $90 Million
Although it may have appeared like all eyes were on Jay-Z and Kanye West this year, R&B singer Rihanna actually earned the biggest pay day as far as touring is concerned. According to Pollstar's Top 25 Worldwide Tours of 2011, Rihanna's Loud tour ranked at No. 7, topping some of the biggest pop acts in the country, including Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
The six-month tour in promotion of her 2010 album Loud rolled through 78 cities and grossed more than $90 million. The "Umbrella" singer had the top show of the year, beating out both Usher's OMG tour, which raked in $59 million, and Jay and Ye's much-hyped Watch the Throne tour, which made $48.3 million.
During the tour RiRi was joined on the road at times by J. Cole, B.o.B and Cee Lo Green, filling in on selected dates; the Loud tour was also assisted by the success of her LP, which produced three No. 1 singles: "Only Girl (In the World)," "S&M" and "What's My Name?"
Rih's fifth and latest album Talk that Talk debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard charts last month. A tour for the promotion of this album has yet to be announced.
