Rihanna, Mary J. Blige Albums Debut in Top 5
The Billboad charts got a double dose of powerful female voices this week, with new records by Rihanna and Mary J. Blige both debuting in the Top 5. Rihanna's Talk That Talk cruised to number three on the charts, selling 197,000 copies in its first week, while Mary J.'s My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act I) debuted at number five with 156,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
Talk That Talk is Rihanna's fifth album and third in the last three years, following Loud in 2010 and Rated R in 2009. Much like the two previous LPs, which spawned numerous No. 1 hit singles, including “Rude Boy,” and “What’s My Name,” Talk That Talk already features the No. 1 single, “We Found Love.”
As for Mary's My Life II, the sequel to her seminal 1994 breakthrough My Life, it features collaborations with Beyoncé, Nas and Drake. The Drake-assisted single, “Mr. Wrong,” is currently No. 47 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop chart.
Elsewhere on the charts, Drake’s Take Care dips to number four after taking the number-one spot last week with one of the biggest debuts of the year. It still managed to move an impressive 173,000 copies in its second week.
