Lil B to Name Next Album "I'm Gay"
Berkeley, California, rap outcast Lil B, won’t ever be labeled as conventional. The Based God, as fans know him, has long espoused a philosophy that disregards the opinions of others, instead focusing on self-expression and exploration above all else.
While performing at Coachella this weekend, B put his money where his mouth is, announcing a deliberately provocative title for his upcoming album: I'm Gay.
Lil B, by most counts a heterosexual (known for cryptically referring to himself as a "pretty bitch" and an Ellen Degeneres-loving “lesbian"), said the album name is meant to indicate two things: That he's happy, as in the original usage of the word gay, and that words themselves really have no meaning.
"You can be anything you want, f--- what anybody else thinks," B said just before making the announcement on stage. "I'm gonna do the most controversial thing in hip hop. Ya'll heard it first. And I'mma just show you that words don't mean s---. I'mma make an album called I'm Gay."
Further explaining the album title, what he acknowledged as a hip hop first, Lil B continued: "I'm just gonna tell you. So many people be worried about what people mean and definitions of words and s---," he said. "Now I like women, I love women, you feel me. But within yourselves, no matter what you do, it doesn't matter. Live life. You've only got one life to live. Be happy."
Lil B's last album, Angels Exodus, was released in January via Amalgam Digital. No word yet on when I'm Gay will be available.
