Cipriana Quann Sues NYPD for False Arrest
Cipriana Quann, model and co-founder of the popular fashion and lifestyle blog Urban Bush Babes, has sued the NYPD following what Quann claims was a false arrest this past May.
Quann, who was selected as one of Vogue’s six brilliant women in New York, was walking into the popular nightclub Verboten in Williamsburg when she allegedly impeded police officers trying to make an arrest in a buy-and-bust drug sting. Quann had nothing to do with the initial arrest, but was allegedly pushed from behind by a NYPD lieutenant wearing a raid jacket.
Following the shove, Quann said, “Can you please watch where you are pushing… I am a woman.” Quann claims that it was after her request that she was grabbed by cops, and put into handcuffs.
The suit was filed this Monday in Brooklyn Federal Court. Quann claims that she spent 24 hours in police custody before she agreed to not fight the charges and reluctantly “agreed to accept an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal for disorderly conduct.”
The criminal charges following the arrest were dismissed and sealed last month. The subsequent suit seeks unspecified monetary damages for the false arrest and an unlawful stop-and-frisk.
Quann, who was dubbed a “voice of your generation” by HBO, and “Influential Millennial” by Gap has yet to make an official statement regarding this development. She has not posted about the suit on social media, or on Urban Bush Babes, which attracts over 350,000 weekly readers.
A New York City Law Department spokesman said the claim will be reviewed.
