Allen West Is Running Out of Time and Options
What do failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Rep. Allen West have in common? They are both Republicans and neither seems to be able to accept defeat gracefully.
Following a small legal victory Friday that forced St. Lucie County, Florida, to recount all early voting ballots over the weekend, West is still on the losing side of his contest with Democrat Patrick Murphy, now by an even wider margin. Still, the former Army officer, and one of just two Black Republicans in the House, is refusing to concede while his legal team explores the options.
After the county processed 37,379 ballots, Murphy had a net gain of close to 300 votes, putting an end to the debate as far as the Democrat is concerned. But West's not giving up yet.
“Since Election Day, we have been working for a fair and accurate accounting of the election outcome in which voters can put their full trust,” West said in a statement, The Palm Beach Post reports. “We will review the results of today’s recount and the other available data to determine how to proceed.”
