See the Magazine Cover That Has Kerry Washington So Mad
Adweek did too much.
The respected advertising trade publication landed Kerry Washington as a cover star, but decided to put a replicant version of her on the cover instead. The Scandal star, who is no stranger to Photoshop controversy, isn't one to stay silent when something bothers her, and took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the odd, highly-manipulated image of herself.
"I was taken aback by the cover. Look, I'm no stranger to Photoshopping. It happens a lot. In a way, we have become a society of picture adjusters - who doesn't love a filter?!? And I don't always take these adjustments to task but I have had the opportunity to address the impact of my altered image in the past and I think it's a valuable conversation," she says. "Yesterday, however, I just felt weary. It felt strange to look at a picture of myself that is so different from what I look like when I look in the mirror. It's an unfortunate feeling."
Unsurprisingly, Kerry's fans took to social media to thank the actress for her honesty and for holding the industry image-makers to task. Even esteemed director Ava DuVernay gave her a shout out on Twitter:
It's women like Kerry who are going to help change the game in the media. Watch her give props to another industry icon, Diahann Carroll, at BET's A Celebration of Hollywood below:
