Willow Smith's Style Muse Is Her 'Very Raunchy' Mom, Jada
There's a new generation of fashionistas on the rise, and they aren't following any of the old rules. Willow Smith and Zendaya are two of the most exciting names in the world of style, and the fashion world has taken notice. The young stars, along with Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka, grace the cover of the new issue of W Magazine and discuss their influences and specific points of view when it comes to how they present themselves to the world.
At just 15-years-old, Smith already has designers fawning over her. She credits her creative style to her parents, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, who stopped asking questions about how she dresses a long time ago. The last time they weighed in on her style? "Only when I was 6 or 7… I wanted to wear things then that might have been too crazy. But now they know I set my own boundaries,” she says.
That isn’t to say she hasn't found inspiration from her parents, particularly her mom. “When she was on tour with Ozzfest, she was very raunchy,” Smith says of the specific era of her mother's that inspires her the most. “I loved watching her on stage.”
Compared to Smith, 19-year-old Zendaya seems like a fashion veteran. Along with scoring a deal with CoverGirl, Zendaya is one of the privileged few to be a muse to Barbie. “After my Oscar moment, Mattel contacted us,” she explains. “They specifically wanted to make a Barbie that looked like me, in my exact outfit from the Oscars. I was so excited that Barbie wanted to diversify their brand.“
Zendaya’s success seems to have no limit, she was recently cast in the upcoming Spider-Man film for a role that some are speculating is the female lead, Mary Jane.
The two young stars have confidence and poise beyond their years, bravely carving out a place for themselves in fashion, film, and beyond. We can't wait to see where their unique style takes them.
