Questlove Loves Doing What With His Yeezy Sneakers?
Kanye West’s Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 sneakers have the honor of being the best-designed kicks of the year, with avid collectors still losing their minds over snapping up a pair. So it may come as a surprise that sneaker aficionado Questlove has a peculiar way of taking care of his pair, which were given to him by Yeezy himself.
“My sneakers are like my children, I can’t pick a favorite,” he tells the Coveteur. “It varies depending on the day. I love, love, love all of my sneakers but I will say that I get perverse pleasure in scuffing up my second edition Yeezy sneaks from 2010.”
Say what? We can already hear the sneakerheads poppin’ off about this, but we have to give Quest respect for reminding us that truly dope kicks deserve to be shown off. The Roots co-founder and current drummer of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon also took the fashion website inside his pristine closet at his downtown Manhattan penthouse.
The photo shoot showed off immaculate racks of aforementioned sneakers, custom T-shirts, sweatpants and more designer duds. He also mused about his love for collectibles — from Spike Lee and Michael Jackson memorabilia to a plethora of old records and CDs that adorn his home.
“An object is meaningful for many reasons, but there are two main ones,” he said. “Sometimes, it’s meaningful immediately. It appeals to me. It makes an appeal to me to keep it. Other times, it just evades disposal or discarding and then becomes important later, when it collects the lint of memory. Not actual lint. I keep everything clean. But some things are magnets for memories. Collection is a mysterious process and I don’t want to jinx it by over-explaining it.”
