Zoe Kravitz, A$AP Rocky Join Indie Drama Dope
Another exciting project is in the works for next year. Zoe Kravitz, Keith Stanfield, Kimberly Elise and rappers A$AP Rocky and Tyga have all been cast in the new feature film Dope by Rick Famuyiwa (The Wood, Brown Sugar), Shadow & Act reports. The film is described as a coming of age story about geeks growing up in Inglewood, Calif., trying to avoid gangs, drugs and crime.
The indie drama has as much muscle behind the camera as in front of it. Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi (Fruitvale Station) are producing the film, which will feature original music by Pharrell Williams, who’s also executive producing.
Famuyiwa has kept a relatively low profile since making his mark with 1999's The Wood, with only two other feature film directing credits to his name. But it does look like he will be making up for lost time with this all-star project.
Dope should hit theaters sometime next year.
