BET Earns 19 NAACP Image Award Nominations
The nominations for the 45th annual NAACP Image Awards are out, with BET earning 19 nods for shows like Real Husbands of Hollywood and The Game.
Lee Daniels' The Butler, 12 Years a Slave and Scandal were also among the top nominees. The awards, which honor the accomplishments of people of color in music, film and television, also named Fruitvale Station, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and The Best Man Holiday among the nominees for Best Motion Picture of the Year.
Nominated for outstanding actor in a motion picture were Chadwick Boseman for 42, Chiwetel Ejiofor for 12 Years a Slave, Forest Whitaker for Lee Daniels' The Butler, Idris Elba for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and Michael B. Jordan for Fruitvale Station.
On deck for outstanding actress in a motion picture are Angela Bassett for Black Nativity, Halle Berry for The Call, Jennifer Hudson for Winnie Mandela, Kerry Washington for Tyler Perry Presents Peeples and Nicole Beharie for 42.
In the television divisions, House of Lies, Modern Family and The Soul Man will go up against BET's Real Husbands of Hollywood and The Game for outstanding comedy. Scandal, Boardwalk Empire, Grey's Anatomy, The Good Wife and Treme scored best drama nominations.
Competing for outstanding actor in a comedy are Andre Braugher for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Cedric the Entertainer for The Soul Man, Don Cheadle for House of Lies, Dule Hill of Psych and Kevin Hart of Real Husbands of Hollywood.
Vying for outstanding actress in a comedy are Aisha Tyler for Archer, Mindy Kaling for The Mindy Project, Niecy Nash of The Soul Man, Tasha Smith for Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse and Wendy Raquel Robinson for The Game.
The slate of nominees for outstanding actor in a drama series includes James Pickens Jr. for Grey's Anatomy, LL Cool J for NCIS: Los Angeles, Michael Ealy for Almost Human, Shemar Moore in Criminal Minds and Wendell Pierce for Treme.
Nominated for outstanding actress in a drama are Chandra Wilson for Grey's Anatomy and Kerry Washington for Scandal, Khandi Alexander for Treme, Nicole Beharie for Sleepy Hollow and Regina King for Southland.
Other BET nominations include Outstanding News/Information - (Series or Special) for Justice for Trayvon and Mandela: Freedom's Father. Also nominated are Sunday Best for Outstanding Reality Series, Black Girls Rock! for Outstanding Variety Series or Special and Being Mary Jane for Outstanding Television Movie/Mini-Series or Dramatic Special.
