Teyana Taylor Quits Music Industry After Feeling ‘Under-Appreciated’
Teyana Taylor thanked her fans in an Instagram post Friday (Dec. 4) in an apparent farewell to her music career.
Taylor, 29, who is married to NBA star Iman Shumpert, issued a stern rebuff to the music industry, posting in the post a screenshot of her Spotify "2020 Artist Wrapped" stats, which showed that her music had been streamed 162.8 million times on the platform, PEOPLE noted.
"Wow, who did that? Y’all did that!" Taylor wrote. "Thank you. I ain’t gone front in times of feeling super under appreciated as an artist, receiving little to no real push from the 'machine', constantly getting the shorter end of the stick, being overlooked, I mean the list on and on lol.."
The news comes after she hit the Grammy Awards last month (November, 2020) for failing to include women as nominees in the R&B category. She released her third studio album, The Album, in June.
She gave birth to her second daughter, Rue Rose Shumpert on Sept. 5. She is also a model and dancer, notably known for her role in 2016 in Kanye West's music video, “Fade” in 2016.
