Prayers Up: Normani Reveals Her Mother’s Breast Cancer Has Returned

The singer’s mom was first diagnosed with the disease when she was around five years old.

Fans are sending their love, prayers and support to the Hamilton family after Normani revealed that her mother’s breast cancer has returned after nearly 20 years.

  • The 24-year-old singer’s mother, Andrea Hamilton, shared the somber news in an emotional post on social media over the weekend.

Taking to Instagram, Hamilton shared a photo of a rosary with an affirmation that she will beat the disease once again, writing, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” She added, “I did it once and I'll do it again! #CancerWho.”

  • Sharing her mom’s post on her own Instagram Story, Normani assured her, “we got this mommy.” She also left some additional uplifting comments under the post, calling her mom “the strongest woman that I know” and a “warrior.” The “Motivation” singer later took to Twitter where she shared her heartfelt sentiments, tweeting out, “f**k cancer.”
Neither Normani nor her mother shared the severity of her diagnosis thus far.

Normani previously opened about when her mother was first diagnosed with breast cancer in a joint interview  with her for PAPER in 2018. She described it as “the scariest point in all of our lives.” Hamilton recalled how she told her young daughter that “mommy was sick,” and “said it was one of the hardest times of my life.”
Normani added: “It's hard for anyone to be able to comprehend that one of their loved ones is that ill and could possibly not be with them anymore, but being a five year old trying to understand that was even more difficult. It hurt me to know that it hurt her."
She continued, “The experience definitely brought us even closer as a family. At the end of the day, we stayed strong for each other as a family and the only thing I can really say is that God kept us strong. I wouldn't be the same person and I probably wouldn't even be in the position that I'm in, so it's really beautiful to have her be here and witness all these beautiful things. I can't imagine doing life without her.”
