Why T.I. Says He Should Battle Jay-Z For Verzuz Battle
Even though 50 Cent declined his invitation to put up their biggest hits against each other, T.I. feels that he has the “doper” catalog between the two of them.
During a livestream with the All Def crew on Wednesday (June 7), Tip explained his reasoning behind singling out the Queens rapper instead of other rappers such as Jeezy, Gucci Mane, and Ludacris, who went up against Nelly on Verzuz in May.
“It ain’t that many multimedia global moguls that can really see me,” Tip explained, adding “Everybody keep trying to put me up against somebody from Atlanta or from the South.”
As the self-proclaimed King of the South, Tip felt that he should go up against a King of New York. The Grand Hustle boss revealed he actually had his eye none other than Jay-Z, telling All Def, “To be honest with you man, I want [Jay-Z]. [But] who can see Jay sitting down to a battle? If’ I’m a billionaire, I’m not finna do that either.”
With that said, he felt Fif was the second best option, saying, “Me and Fifty ain’t that far off. As far as our confidence, as far as our bankrolls go, we kind of neck and neck, whether [people] know it or not.”
“And another thing is personality,” the Atlanta rapper continued. “I need someone who has a personality that won’t be so intimidated by my bravado. I need somebody I can talk to who ain’t gon’ feel like I’m picking on them if I get to talking like I’m talking right now.”
Tip proclaimed that his catalog was stronger than Fifty’s catalog. “I don’t care who sold how many records. I don’t care who got number ones. I don’t care about any of that. I think my catalog is doper,” he declared, highlighting how his catalog stretches all the way through the early 2000s up until present day.
