BET Awards 2020: Alicia Keys’ ‘Perfect Way To Die’ Performance Left Us In Tears
Alicia Keys paid homage to the memory of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery in a rousing performance of her heart-wrenching ballad, “A Perfect Way To Die.”
The 15-time Grammy winning singer and songwriter was inspired to write the raw, emotional track in honor of all of the lives that have been lost at the hands of police violence.
Seated at a piano in the middle of a darkly lit street, Keys brought to life the collective anguish and grief felt by those in the Black community with a set that moved hearts.
Her set also included nods to Sandra Bland and Michael Brown, who were all about to begin new chapters of their lives. But now, instead, they’re “another dream lost.”
Keys poignantly ended her set with a wide overview shot of the names, drawn in chalk, of the Black woman and men lost along the way.
