Watch 50 Cent’s Heartbreaking Interview About Fractured Relationship With His Son Marquise
50 Cent’s estrangement from his first-born son, Marquise Jackson, has publically played out over the past two years.
The two men have traded vicious barbs on social media and in interviews, but people haven’t lost hope of a reconciliation between Fifty and his oldest son.
The G-Unit mogul connected with Van Lathan for XXL via Instagram Live on Tuesday (May 5), and spoke about mending his relationship with Marquise.
“It’s a sad situation, and when you pray for success, you don’t necessarily pray for the things that come with it. It’s no such thing as success without jealousy, without envy or entitlement...His mom developed an entitlement that cannot be met, filtering that energy through his actual personal interests,” Fifty began.
The rapper then spoke about his son’s upbringing.
“So, while being a privileged child, he feels deprived. [Marquise] had everything I didn’t have,” the rapper continued, adding that there were never any issues with him paying child support.
He admitted that he did solely blame Tompkins for their soured father-son relationship until he realized there was tension between him and Marquise, saying, “I’ve gone places where he was at [and] he left.”
When Lathan asked the rapper if he still loves his son, he responded “I used to.”
“I didn’t think success would cost me my firstborn, but this [is] the situation. My grandfather would say ‘If it rattle like a snake, slither like a snake, is it a snake or do you need to be bit?” the rapper said. “What he’s saying is everytime you see the boy, he shows up with somebody you got a problem with.’ What does that tell you?”
