Young Thug Feels Lil Nas X ‘Shouldn’t Have Told The World’ About His Sexual Orientation

The gender-bending rapper has a few words for his contemporary.

Young Thug isn’t new to the game when it comes to defying hip-hop’s gender norms that are steeped in toxic masculinity. After all, this is the man who unapologetically wears women’s clothes.

  • Despite that, Thugger isn’t feeling so sure about Lil Nas X’s decision to reveal his sexual orientation to the world at the end of Pride Month.

It doesn’t help that hip-hop and rap circles at large have been slow to openly accept LGBTQ individuals among its ranks. The country hip-hop star has had to deal with homophobes swarming in his comments after he made the announcement.

  • In an interview, which went up yesterday (July 14), the YSL Records founder shared that while he has no problems with Lil Nas’ sexuality, he is afraid of the backlash the young rapper will face going forward.

Speaking with podcaster Adam22 for No Jumper backstage during London’s Wireless Festival, Thugger said that others that are not so open-minded might unfairly judge Lil Nas without giving his music a chance.

“He shouldn’t have told the world. It’s like these days...it’s just all judgment. It ain’t even about the music no more, the ''Chanel” rapper explained. “Once [people] found out he was gay, soon as the song come on now, everybody like this gay a** nigga. People don’t even care to listen to the song no more.”

Throughout the interview, which happened before Lil Nas surprise-dropped the Young Thug-assisted remix of “Old Town Road,” Thug had nothing but praise for Lil Nas X, calling his decision to come out during Pride Month a “G’s move.”

“I just feel like he young, and backlash can come behind anything,” he explained of his reasoning. “He young, so I know what he going to be dealing with it in his mind. I know what he dealing with. So I was like, 'F**k, he should have never said that [and] never should have told them.'”
