Jay-Z Becomes First Hip-Hop Billionaire, Forbes Reports

From the hard knock life to Wall Street, Hov is laying the blueprint for future generations.

“I’m not a businessman,” Jay-Z once rapped. “I’m a business, man.” True to his word, Jigga turned his musical empire into a number of profitable business ventures outside of music.

Now, Hov is adding another impressive milestone status to his storied resume: billionaire.

  • According to Forbes, the Brooklyn native has reportedly accumulated a fortune totalling up to $1 billion spanning real estate, sports, music, and fashion. This makes him “one of only a handful of entertainers to become a billionaire and the first hip-hop artist to do so.”

While some have been quick to bring up that Dr. Dre accomplished the feat first after he sold Beats By Dre to Apple for $3 billion, Forbes estimated his net worth at $770 million in 2018.

  • Financial experts surveyed his extensive array of entrepreneurial pursuits spanning real estate, sports, fashion, tech and private investments. His portfolio includes an art collection valued at $70 million, $220 million in investments, and a liquor with worth $310 million.
