Aaliyah's Brother Released Something On Her 40th Birthday That Will Make Your Heart Shatter
As an annual ritual of sorts, Rashad Haughton, the older brother of late R&B songstress Aaliyah, dropped off a special poem in light of what would have been Baby Girl’s 40th birthday on Wednesday (January 16).
Rashad dropped off his poetic tribute along with several of her closest industry family, like Timbaland and Missy Elliott, for the special occasion, that’s gentle to the touch, but piercing to the hearts of Aaliyah’s fans and all those who loved her dearly.
‘The many were once as one/ By way of mind and tongue,’ the poem, titled ‘Tower,’ begins
In four stanzas, Rashad uses his words to weave a beautiful portrait of freedom, unexpected discoveries, and tranquility through the poem. Some of the standout verses arrive in the final stanza:
Hollow voices ripple upstream
Yearning to rejoin the sea
Cry, “Universe, sacred womb
A truth revealed
Is a song set free
Gentle whisper of wind
Sow these seeds for me."
