Hip Hop Awards 2023: All-Stars Performed A Tribute Celebrating Marley Marl's Legacy

At the “BET Hip Hop Awards” 2023, it’s all about giving flowers to the legends, and Marl was this year’s ‘I Am Hip-Hop’ award recipient, with Swizz Beatz and Timbaland awarding Marl with the prestigious award. The tribute video featured kind words from his peers like Roxanne Shante, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and artists like Eminem.
During his speech, the veteran talked about his accomplishments throughout his career, from sampling to being the first hip-hop DJ to spin live on the radio with WBLS. He also accepted the award on behalf of deceased DJ Mr. Magic, who was his co-host on the first rap show on the radio with Rap Attack.
“It all started with a little dream in the crib. Queensbridge, I love you. This goes out to you too,” the industry veteran said. “I accept this award and thank you for giving it to me because I am hip hop DJ Marley Marl.”
