Hip Hop Awards 2022: 3 Of The Greatest Guest Verse Appearances From Kanye West
Kanye West earned an impressive ten nominations at the BET Hip Hop Awards 2022. The rapper comes in second place with ten nominations behind Canadian rap star Drake, who earned 14 nods at this year’s ceremony. Ye’s recognitions are in several of the major categories, including “Hip Hop Album of the Year,” “Hip Hop Artist of the Year,”’ “Song of the Year,” “Best Hip Hop Video,” and many more. Ye is also up for the “Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse” for “City of Gods” with himself, Fivio Foreign, and Alicia Keys. He’ll face off against Drake and J Cole, who also have two nods in the category. As well as Lil Baby and Jadakiss. Ahead of this year’s event, we’re looking at some of the rapper’s coldest guest verses. Check it out below.
Jeezy — “Put On”
“Put On” is the lead single from Jeezy’s third studio album, The Recession. The song performed so well that it earned Jeezy and Ye a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
Standout line: I know hoes that was fronting when they knew he was broke / They say, "Damn, Yeezy, Yeezy, you don't know us no more / You got that big fame, homie, and you just changed on me / You can ask big homie, man, the top so lonely.
Estelle — “American Boy”
In his verse for Estelle’s 2008 single “American Boy,” Ye effortlessly blends American and English references as he raps about his public image. Will.i.am produced the track.
Standout line: Dressed smart like a London bloke / Before he speak his suit bespoke / And you thought he was cute before / Look at this pea coat, tell me he's broke.
Drake — “Forever” feat. Kanye, Lil Wayne, and Eminem
Ye appeared on Drake’s “Forever” well before the two were feuding for the “Forever” from the soundtrack for More than a Game. The 2008 documentary follows NBA superstar LeBron James and four of his teammates through the trials and tribulations of high school basketball in Akron, Ohio, and James's journey to fame.
Standout line: Old money, Benjamin Button, "What?" nothin' / Now it's super bad chicks givin' me McLovin / You would think I ran the world like Michelle's husband.
