Kamala Harris Unveils Opportunity Agenda for Black Men

The vice president announced an ambitious plan to empower Black men economically, protect their health, and secure their rights.

Today (Oct. 14), Kamala Harris revealed her groundbreaking Opportunity Agenda for Black Men, providing tools and resources to help them achieve financial independence, lower their living costs, and safeguard their rights. Drawing from her personal experience and insights gathered during her Economic Opportunity Tour, the agenda focuses on entrepreneurship, education, digital asset protection, healthcare, and legal reforms.

The vice president’s Opportunity Agenda for Black Men agenda includes providing 1 million forgivable loans to help Black entrepreneurs launch and expand their businesses. It also focuses on creating more pathways for Black men to secure high-paying jobs, especially by increasing the number of Black male teachers and offering leadership training. Additionally, the agenda addresses financial security through a regulatory framework that protects Black men investing in digital assets. Health equity is also a priority, with a new initiative to address issues like sickle cell disease, diabetes, and mental health, which disproportionately affect Black men. Finally, Harris is advocating for the legalization of recreational marijuana, ensuring Black Americans benefit from the economic opportunities in this emerging industry.

“This agenda is a further realization of Vice President Harris’ Opportunity Economy,” Congressman and Harris-Walz Campaign Co-Chair Cedric Richmond said in a press release.” An economy where people don't just get by but get ahead. Where Black men are equipped with the tools to thrive: to buy a home, provide for our families, start a business, and build wealth. Donald Trump could care less about equipping hardworking Americans with the tools needed to get ahead. From being investigated by the Department of Justice for refusing to rent to Black tenants to falsely accusing the Central Park 5 and calling for their execution to spreading the racist birther conspiracy theory against President Obama, at every step of his life, Donald Trump put Black men down for his own personal brand. If he wins in November, he is telling us exactly what he’ll do to Black men: not only will he raise costs on Black families, his Project 2025 agenda will grant blanket immunity to the police regardless of their behavior, require stop-and-frisk, terminate Obamacare and repeal the $35 insulin cap, and roll back anti-discrimination policies left and right. While Vice President Harris is promising to equip Black men with the tools needed to pursue our dreams and aspirations, Donald Trump is promising Black in America a national nightmare.”

In the final days of the presidential campaign, the Harris-Walz team is hitting the road with an agenda aimed at Black men. They’ll host “Black Men Huddle Up” events—NFL and NCAA watch parties at Black-owned sports bars in battleground states, creating a space for Black men to discuss the election’s impact on their communities. The Economic Freedom Talk series will feature business advocates Dr. Lakeysha Hallmon and Ryan Wilson, supporting small business owners and entrepreneurs. Additionally, the campaign will ramp up community organizing efforts by continuing the Shop Talk series, Brother to Brother canvass events, and a forum for Black men in Milwaukee. To bolster their outreach, new media testimonials featuring local Black male voices will spotlight the campaign team’s vision for small businesses.
