Hip Hop Awards 2024: Travis Scott Accepts the ‘I Am Hip Hop Award’
Rapper Travis Scott was honored with the prestigious “I Am Hip Hop” award at the “BET Hip Hop Awards” 2024.
Presented by actress, singer, and director Teyana Taylor, the award is given to an emcee whose career exemplifies the essence of hip-hop. It celebrates artists who have made an indelible mark on the culture through their creativity, influence, and contributions.
The “FE!N” rapper was celebrated with a video tribute that featured several of his peers, including Teyana Taylor, Bun B, DJ Khaled, and Teezo Touchdown. Each spoke on Travis' boundary-breaking sound and his innovative approach as a rapper, producer, and overall brand.
“In so short of a time, Travis has been able to not only be a part of hip hop but to actually help revolutionize hip hop. Take hip hop to other levels that it hasn’t been taken to,” praised Bun B.
During his acceptance speech, after receiving the award from collaborator Tyla, Travis expressed gratitude to God, his parents, and his grandmothers, who he said pray for him daily. He also acknowledged his two children, Stormi and Aire.
“I come from this generation where they considered us nowhere near like hip hop, and every day, I try and push the sound. And coming in as a producer, nobody knew what the f—k I was trying to do, but I always had this idea. I had this vision, still to this day, to take the sound and just to take things to the next level, and I’m just so glad that we made it this far,” he shared.
Travis ended his speech with a powerful message about overcoming obstacles and finding success despite limited resources in his hometown: “And I just want to let everybody know where you come from doesn’t really matter; just what goes on in your brain can take you to the next level and beyond. With true focus, true drive, and real surroundings, you can go where the f—k you want to go.”
