Amazon Studios Releases First Images From 'Coming 2 America'

The Zamundan Royal Family is back on March 5, 2021.

After over 30 years, Coming 2 America, the much anticipated sequel to the 1989 Eddie Murphy comedy, will finally be released by Amazon Studios on Amazon Prime on March 5, 2021. The film was originally scheduled to be released in theaters this December, but was pushed back and onto streaming due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, the studio has released the first images from the film starring many of the original cast including Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos, Garcelle BeauvaisVanessa Bell Calloway,and James Earl Jones. Joinng them are Wesley Snipes, Teyana Taylor, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Paul Bates, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Bella Murphy.

This time around, the story is set in the fictional royal African nation of Zamunda, where newly-crowned King Akeem (Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Hall) must travel back to Queen, New York after discovering that Akeem has a son there that he never knew about. To honor his father’s dying wish, Akeem must return to prepare his son for royal duties.

Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, said in a statement, “Coming to America was a cultural phenomenon that is one of the most loved and celebrated comedies of all time.”
