Black Twitter's Best Reactions To The Terrifying 'Candyman' Trailer

The film is written by Jordan Peele and directed by Nia DaCosta.

Jordan Peele is this generation's master of horror from Get Out to Us. Now, the trailer for Candyman, which is directed by filmmaker Nia DaCosta (Little Woods) and written by Peele, has social media buzzing.

The original Candyman is a horror classic from 1992. A man with a hook for a hand, who haunts the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood, can be summoned by repeating "Candyman" five times in a mirror.
In 2020, years after the Cabrini towers were torn down, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II; HBO’s Watchmen, Us) and his girlfriend, gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah ParrisIf Beale Street Could Talk), move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, which has been gentrified.
Mr. Candyman, however, is not here for gentrification and when McCoy has the audacity to say his name five times, all hell breaks loose. Peele also used Destiny's Childs “Say My Name" for an earily extra added touch.

  • The trailer got tons of reactions from Black Twitter: the gore, the music and, of course, a cameo by the ageless Vanessa A.  Williams, who was in the original.
Candyman hits theaters in June but in the meantime, check out the freaked out Twitter reactions.
