Jennifer Hudson Makes First Appearance As Aretha Franklin While Filming Biopic
For those of you who are fans of the “Queen of Soul,” Aretha Franklin, it’s time to get excited because her story is currently in the works. According to the Daily Mail, Jennifer Hudson was spotted on the streets of Harlem, NY, working on set as the beloved singer who was born in Memphis, TN, and raised in Detroit, Michigan.
The 38-year-old American Idol alum was spotted looking warm and cozy in a pair of Uggs and a black puffy jacket, and a slouch hat, as she spoke with directors and prepared for her upcoming scenes. Looking similar to the iconic singer, Jennifer sported a short wig and a colorful dress that was a total blast from the past.
The movie, Respect, has been a vision for some time and the legendary singer was clear-cut in her decision to have the "Spotlight" singer play the lead role. Ms. Franklin was very involved in the development of her biopic until her passing in August 2018.
Co-starring with Hudson is comedian and producer, Marlon Wayans, who will be playing her onscreen husband, Ted White. Ted White is the man that Ms. Franklin married when she was 19-year-old. The movie will also include R&B singer, Mary J. Blige, playing the role of the late and great singer, Dinah Washington.
The eagerly anticipated MGM film is scheduled to hit theatres in August of 2020.
