'Sistas' Episode 1 Recap: This Is The Heat We All Need For Our Fall-Winter TV Lineup

The series' quintessential quartet is keeping our screens sexy, scandalous and all things spicy this season.

From Girlfriends to Living Single to Sex and the City, it's no secret that when it comes to onscreen girl groups, a core quartet is often a necessary recipe for a show's success.

And Sistas is no different.

Tyler Perry's latest prime-time television series, Sistas, does a superb job of sticking to the infamous girl gang script, while also rewriting h̶i̶s̶t̶o̶r̶y̶ her story, in the process.

Turning to the classic "Femme-tastic Four" formula, Sistas features four friends who all go through the motions of life as seen in various story lines.

The dramedy, which often teeters the line of soap opera and satire, follows the loves, lives and lows of Andrea "Andi" Barnes (KJ Smith), Karen Mott (Ebony Obsidian), Daniella "Dani" King (Mignon Vin) and Sabrina Hollins (Novi Brown).

The series debut opens with Andi in bed with her lover of six months. Andi is a successful divorce lawyer, who, ironically, is caught up in a romantic tryst with a married man claiming to be "separated." Although Andi is quickly regarded as the group's most successful -- and sensible -- one, her blind ambition on her quest for love soon clashes with her work, as seen in the premiere episode.

Karen is the super independent, strong-willed one of the group. The owner of a hair salon, the petite powerhouse soon proves that what she lacks in size, she more than makes up for with her sass and strength. In the Season 1 opener, Karen is seen going through a breakup with her live-in boyfriend, and takes a mortifying trip to the doctor after finding out that her man has been less than faithful.

Dani is no doubt the "ride or die" of Sistas. She is definitely the backbone of the group, in the sense that, simply put, she has her friends' backs. The comic relief of the four, Dani's debut on the show kicks off with her complaining about her own love life during a morning drive to work. However, upon arrival at her job, the airport attendant quickly switches gears, placing her issues on the back burner, in order to fight her friend's former boyfriend for cheating.

Sabrina can definitely be seen as the "peacemaker" of the posse. A bank teller who lives life more on the reserved side, in the premiere episode, Sabrina decides to step out of the box and goes on a date with one of the customers at her bank. However, Sabrina's growing suspicions of his sexuality casts some doubts on their date, which quickly manifests in her subsequent behavior toward him.
