Loni Love Reacts To Backlash Over Her White Boyfriend By Pointing Out A Double Standard In The Black Community
Loni Love has been candid about her relationship woes throughout the years on her daytime talk show The Real. Now that the comedian is happily settled down with a man who happens to be white, she claims she's received tons of backlash. Now, she's choosing to address her haters and is holding up a mirror to double standards in the Black community when it comes to interracial relationships.
Love has been committed to actor James Welsh since 2018, and the two even spoke about their romance on the talk show. Since going public, the comic admits their relationship has not been publicly received as well as she'd hoped, and she's made an observation about those bothered by their romance.
"Amazed at times at the folks concerned that I am dating a White male but for years Black males have dated White and 'Exotic' women and no one questions it," she tweeted.
Love told her The Real audience and viewers back in March that she and Welsh met on a dating app that she said was formatted similarly to a sports bracket.
"It took me a while to meet him. Like, maybe two months," she recalled. "He was very consistent... I was down to my final two, it was a championship, right. The final one, he just wouldn't ask me on a date. So, James stepped right in."
While Loni deserves to be happy with whomever she dates, plenty of high-profile Black actors, from Michael B. Jordan to Jesse Williams, have caught flack for dating White women. Maybe we can all agree to just... let folks live?
