5 Things To Know About Melissa L. Williams, Star of Tyler Perry's 'Ruthless'
Melissa L. Williams, the model and actress best known for playing polar opposite twin sisters, Denise and Ruth, on Tyler Perry’s megahit, The Oval is more than meets the eye. The vegetarian and a self-proclaimed “foodie,” has a passion for health and fitness and loves a good hip-hop spin class. Here are five reasons why this Oklahoma City native is cementing a name for herself as one to watch in Hollywood.
The model, born Melissa Leann Williams, was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is the oldest of six children.
Melissa was bit by the acting bug at an early age after watching Shirley Temple in middle school, when she knew she was destined for the camera. Williams went on to participate in her church’s Easter play and her own talent shows at family gatherings to showcase her acting chops.
Williams moved from Oklahoma to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Clark Atlanta University, where she majored in Theater under the late Carole-Mitchell Leon. The actress was also heavily involved in extracurricular activities, including the C.A.U. Players, the university’s drama club.

Before moving to Los Angeles, Williams appeared in various theater musicals. Her first acting gig was Officer Jane in the 2011 short film, All the King’s Horses. Her first televised speaking role was on BET’s The Game, a role she landed shortly after moving to L.A.
Aside from acting, Williams is also a singer, with an impressive musical theatre background. She was even a member of a singing group.
