Tiffany Haddish Responds To Will Smith Slap At Oscars, Says He Stood ‘Up for His Wife’

"Maybe the world might not like how it went down, but for me, it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen," the comedian and actress said.

Tiffany Haddish is taking a moment to respond to the Will Smith and Chris Rock incident at the 94th Academy Awards and is sharing why the moment was “beautiful” to her.

While attending the Governors Ball after the Sunday evening ceremony, the Girls Trip star shared her thoughts with PEOPLE saying: “When I saw a Black man stand up for his wife. That meant so much to me.”

Rock, who was a presenter at the show, made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s shaved head by comparing it to the look of Demi Moore in the 1997 movie G.I. Jane.

“Jada, I love you, ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it,” Rock said. The King Richard actor soon walked to the stage and hit Rock after the joke was made about his wife’s hair.

Pinkett-Smith has been sporting a shaved head since opening up about her battle with hair loss and Alopecia in 2018.

“As a woman, who has been unprotected, for someone to say, 'Keep my wife's name out your mouth, leave my wife alone,' that's what your husband is supposed to do, right? Protect you,” Haddish continued, responding to the event.

Adding: “And that meant the world to me. And maybe the world might not like how it went down, but for me, it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen because it made me believe that there are still men out there that love and care about their women, their wives.”

Smith, later won “Best Actor” at the ceremony and gave an emotional acceptance speech, while apologizing to The Academy for hitting Rock.

Chris Rock has not officially made a statement about the incident but it has been confirmed that the comedian has declined to file a police report, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
