The Jamaican-born artist made a stunning debut at the BET Awards with a fiery performance of Tyla's latest single, "Jump," featuring Gunna.

At the BET Awards 2024, the Jamaica-born musical sensation Skillibeng delivered a show-stopping performance alongside Tyla and Gunna for the South African singer’s latest single, “Jump.” 

Skillibeng, whose real name is Emwah Warmington, has rapidly ascended to fame with his innovative sound and lyrical prowess, quickly becoming a prominent figure in the dancehall scene. 

Known for hits like “Crocodile Teeth” and “Whap Whap,” the rising star has garnered international acclaim, blending traditional dancehall rhythms with contemporary influences.

    Tracks like “Crocodile Teeth” highlight Skillibeng's talent for combining street-savvy lyrics with catchy beats. His unique fusion of genres, including drill, reggae, and more, sets him apart from other modern dancehall artists and pushes the boundaries of the genre's traditional sounds. 

  • He’s already achieved several significant milestones

    Skillibeng’s “Jump” collaboration with Tyla debuted at number six on Billboard’s US Afrobeats Songs chart. It reached Number 14 on the Hot R&B Songs chart, marking his debut in the latter category.

    During an interview at a studio in Brooklyn, New York, for British style magazine The Face, Skillibeng declared, "I'm the greatest Dancehall artist of my era... That's what I am. I'm just doing my job. And I'm good at my job.”

    In January 2020, Skillibeng released his debut studio album, The Prodigy, featuring 35 tracks. The album debuted on the US Current Reggae Albums Chart and peaked at number 16.

  • He’s secured a record deal two years after his debut

    A year after the 2021 release of his second and third studio,  The Prodigy: Ladies Only Edition and Crocodile Teeth, respectively, “Badman” rapper secured a record deal with RCA Records and Eastsyde Records.

    “I’m thrilled to have signed with RCA Records and have their global support,” Skillibeng said in a statement to Billboard then. “I have a wonderful team working with me under the leadership of Peter Edge, and it’s a true pinnacle of my career to have their commitment and belief.”
