BET Awards 2024: Big Willie: 5 Must-Have Party Songs from Will Smith

The Academy Award winner blessed the stage last Sunday with a new record.

Rap legend and Academy Award-winning actor Will Smith delivered a powerful performance of his latest single, "You Can Make It," at the BET Awards 2024 last Sunday, June 30.

Joined by Gospel legend Kirk Franklin and the uplifting voices of the Sunday Service Choir, the veteran Hollywood captivated the audience with an inspiring blend of rap and soulful melodies. The record marked the Hollywood veteran’s first major release since his 2005 album, Lost and Found. (The star also dropped an EDM single titled “Get Lit” in 2017.)

The collaboration brought angelic energy to the stage, showcasing Smith's long-lasting versatility as an artist. We’re looking back on some of Smith’s most significant records in honor of this incredible moment. Check out the hits below.

  • “Miami”

Another hit from his album Big Willie Style, “Miami,” celebrates the city’s nightlife and culture. The song's infectious rhythm and catchy chorus make it a perfect party anthem, capturing the lively spirit of Miami. Directed by Wayne Isham, the music video has been viewed on YouTube 81 million times.

  • “Men in Black”

The title track for the blockbuster movie Men in Black, this 1997 song showcases Will’s ability to blend humor with a catchy beat. The infectious chorus and the Paul Hunter-directed music video featuring Smith in his iconic black suit and shades made this song an instant hit.

The track earned a “Best Rap Solo Performance” nomination at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards but lost to Eminem’s “My Name Is.”

  • “Just The Two Of Us”

In this heartfelt track, The proud dad reflects on his relationship with his son, Trey. Sampling Bill Withers’ classic song, Will’s version is a touching ode to fatherhood, blending emotional lyrics with a soothing melody.

  • “Gettin' Jiggy wit It”

Arguably, one of the rapper’s most famous solo tracks, “Gettin’ Jiggy wit It,” dominated the charts and dance floors in the late '90s. The upbeat tempo and catchy hook earned Smith a Grammy Award for “Best Rap Solo Performance.”

  • “Summertime”

Released as part of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, the 1991 classic “Summertime” is a quintessential summer anthem. With its laid-back groove and smooth lyrics, the song captures the essence of warm, sunny days and remains a staple in summer playlists.
