BET Awards 2022: Brandy Gushes Over Her Surprise Rap Performance with Jack Harlow at this Year’s Ceremony

The two artists took to the BET stage for a rap heavy rendition of the Kentucky native’s hit single “First Class.”

Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and actress Brandy Norwood is reflecting on her show-stopping surprise performance at the BET Awards 2022 hosted by Golden Globe-winning actress Taraji P. Henson.

Rising rapper Jack Harlow already had fans jamming after taking the stage with legendary rapper Lil Wayne for a performance of their popular collaboration, “Poison.” However, the Kentucky native turned up the heat with a special appearance by the “Borderline” songbird.

“This was a magical night. I felt so loved and appreciated by @jackharlow and his wonderful team,” the “Almost Doesn’t Count” singer wrote on Instagram following the energy-packed moment. The 43-year-old shared that she hadn’t “been to the BET Awards in a VERY long time” and “It’s my dream to earn one. Thank y’all for embracing me like family. And the crowd for making me feel #firstclass Jack, me and you 4 life.”

The singer concluded her post by thanking her cousin and frequent collaborator Ryan Ramsey “For helping to believe in myself - you started me in rap.” She added, “Got me my first beat.-and now you got me on a huge platform with @jackharlow.”

During Sunday night’s (June 26) show, the affectionately known “The Vocal Bible” steered away from her typical singing style and opted for a rap verse stating, "allow me to reintroduce myself."

Brandy has been rapping under the alias Bran’ Nu since 2009 when she worked with Timbaland on the track, “Meet in The Middle" on his Shock Value 2 album. According to Vibe, Timbaland saw Brandy  rhyming on YouTube and knew he needed to add her on for her rhyming ability.

The post comes on the heels of Brady’s new music partnership with the iconic Motown Records. The “Full Moon” singer took to her social media page where she shared the exciting new deal, writing, “Thank you God for a dream come true! I’m so excited to announce my partnership with @motownrecords and the incomparable @theethiopiandream.” She added, “Thanks to my team and my beautiful fans for riding with me all these years.”
