BET Awards 2022: Latto Brings “Big Energy” With Surprise Appearance From Mariah Carey, Young Dirty Bastard
Rapper Latto brought all the energy to the 2022 BET Awards this year.
She opened up her performance with her hit song “It’s Givin.” The nostalgia came in once Young Dirty Bastard (the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s son) hit the stage for the remix of “Big Energy.” YDB reminded us all of ODB's infectious energy on stage.
Latto rejoined the performance before the surprise continued with the legendary Mariah Carey behind a silhouette that gave way to her signature hourglass dress and butterflies. As the crowd erupted, the remix was on full display.
Mariah hit her infamous high notes. For Latto, those high notes were her favorite part about working with the legend for the remix.
“Big Energy” is a track heavily influenced and sampled from Mariah Carey’s 1995 “Fantasy”, which featured Old Dirty Bastard.
In April, “Big Energy” topped the Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It became the rapper’s first number one single.
