Senate Chaplain Barry Black Calls Out Republicans In Unforgettable Opening Prayer
Senate Republicans ultimately voted on Friday (January 31) to block witness testimony during Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, however, their cowardness was not unnoticed by most involved, even the Senate Chaplain.
While swearing in everyone on the final day of events Senate Chaplain Barry Black very subtly called out Republicans while swearing everyone in.
"Eternal Lord God," Black prayed, "You have summarized ethical behavior in a single sentence: Do for others what you would have them to do for you. Remind our senators that they alone are accountable to you for their conduct," he concluded with an emphasis in his voice on the last sentence.

Almost every Republican, even prior to all impeachment proceedings, claimed they had made up their minds to acquit Trump of any wrongdoing, let alone vote to hear witness testimony.
"The Senate chaplain warned the Senate in prayer today, saying to God, 'They can't ignore you and get away with it. We always reap what we sow,'" tweeted Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II. "Does [Senate Majority Leader Mitch] McConnell recognize that he & the other Senators & this nation will reap what they are sowing?"
Black became chaplain of the U.S. Senate in June 2003 after 27 years of service in the U.S. Navy. He’s earned degrees in divinity, management, counseling, ministry and psychology.
