As spokesperson for the My Black is Beautiful "Imagine a Future" campaign, Tatyana Ali has been busy helping women empower themselves and develop healthy images of the things they can accomplish. The actress chatted with Styleblazer.com about the importance of the initiative as well as how she nurtures her own self-confidence each day.
"We think we can become what we see. Images are the same as the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and what we're capable of achieving," she said. "If positive images are not put there and the conversation says that we can't achieve it, then we tend to believe it. Part of this campaign on Facebook is creating a space to say it is possible and talk about it – women of all ages can join the conversation. And we have all types of women from engineers to mathematicians."
Ali is so the person for the job. Not only did we want to be her BFF during her days on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but she's gone on to grow up with such grace and continues to exude that down-to-earth vibe we love so much. During her interview, Ali shared how expressing gratitude is what keeps her feeling confident every day.
"I start everyday by saying 'thank you' out loud. It totally boosts my confidence. It makes me feel like I can go into any room and do anything, say anything I need to say, ask for anything I need to ask for because it's almost a privileged to be able to do it."
